Hugh Emmet O'Rourke, Jr.
My grandfather Hugh O'Rourke was born in 1895 in the Elagh Townland, County Tyrone near Stewartstown. He emigrated as a young teen and settled in NYC and the Bronx. My father Hugh O'Rourke has hosted a traditional music radio show on Nassau County CC radio and is a self-taught geneologist. Our family geneology is difficult because of a preponderance of males named Joseph, Patrick and Hugh.

My O'Rourke ancestors were from King's County, Ireland, and descended from Samuel O'Rourke and Jane Boucher. Samuel's son, Samuel, married Judith Grace in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, in 1824. They left Montreal for a farming community, Saint Canut, in the north-west part of Quebec.
Another branch of this family was from Tipperary.?

I married an O'Rourke and am now trying to help my daughter find her ancestors. She has information from a family journal. John O'Rourke was from County Roscommon. She believes that he was born around 1850 the journal states he came to the United States in 1867 at the age of 17. He states that he came to the US looking for his brother, that he never found. He married Ellen Nolan(maiden name) in Ohio in 1877. He had a child 3 yrs old. Her first husband died, not sure of his name, but it may have been MItchell. If there is anyone in the Roscommon area that has availability to birth records at the Catholic churches and could help me, that would be greatly appreciated. Thank You Anne
